Huopatossutehtaalla / Slipper factory

Eli kurkistus pukinkonttiin, osa 1.
Now that Christmas celebration is almost over, let's have a look at what Santa brought.

Anoppini, jonka toinen nimi on Orvokki, sai orvokkitossut.
My MIL got a pair of felted slippers with Pansy decoration.

Orvokkitossut / Pansy slippers
Ohje / Pattern: Duffers revisited by Mindie Tallack & Tarhaorvokki / Pansy by Lesley Stanfield
Koko / Size: ~EUR39 (neulottu koon EUR43 mukaan / knitted using instructions for size EUR43)
Lanka / Yarn: Schachenmayr Nomotta Villmark (harmaa / gray) &
A.P.D.O.O Sport Superwash (orvokit / pansies)
Puikot & koukku / Needles & hook: 8 mm & 3.5 mm

Käytin neulontaosuudessa 8 mm bambupyöröä, jolla pituutta 80 cm. Kuten kuvasta näkyy, pitempi kaapeli olisi ehdottomasti tarpeen tässä. Lankaa pidin kaksinkerroin ja yhteen tossuun meni yksi kerä.
I used a bamboo needles with a 32" cable. The cable was too short for magic-looping, but any longer cable wasn't available. I held the yarn double, and one skein was enough for one slipper.

I first tried felting at 30 degrees. Nothing happened. Another wash at 40 degrees resulted in a pair of perfect slippers.

Orvokkien ohje on kirjasta "Anna kaikkien kukkien kukkia".
The pattern for the crocheted pansies is from the book "100 flowers to knit and crochet". I bought the yarns from Karnaluks in Tallinn and I started crocheting already during the ferry trip. Special thanks to Hanna-Kaisa for inspiration and help.

I also made another pair of duffers, but that wasn't a success story. Since the washing at 30 degrees seemed to have no effect on the slippers earlier, I skipped it and just washed at 40 degrees. And here is the result shown in the feet of size EUR45. Sorry for the terrible photo.

Heitin tossut uusintakierrokselle, tällä kertaa eri pesukoneeseen.
I re-felted the slippers in another washing machine, a front-loader with a 2-hour washing programme. And as you may guess, the slippers were quite small afterwards. Well, not as tiny as these. Felting is more of an art than a science.
